Once upon a time, there was a mighty kingdom, ruled by a king who was powerful and haughty and rich. He had three daughters but no sons. One day, thinking to preen himself even more than usual, but also wanting to choose which of his daughters would inherit the crown, he called them to him and asked them a question, “How much do you love me?” His eldest daughter answered, “I love you as much as gold.” His middle daughter answered, “I love you as much as silver.” The youngest daughter however, said, “I love you as much as, and even more than salt,” upon which, the outraged king banished her from the kingdom.
